While You're Here...

If you’re looking to elevate your Mardi Gras style, be sure to check out some of my favorite accessories and clothes on my Amazon Storefront! I’ve curated a collection of festive pieces that are perfect for adding that extra pop to your outfit. But if you’re all about supporting local and finding something truly unique, I highly recommend shopping at some amazing small businesses in Galveston. Shopping local will give you those special finds you won’t see anywhere else, and you'll be helping to keep the Mardi Gras spirit alive while making a big impact on the local community!

1. Layer

The weather in Galveston can be pretty unpredictable, so while you might be able to enjoy the sun during the day, when it gets dark, I can promise you’ll want a warm jacket or coat. But here’s the great thing about Mardi Gras: funky is fashionable! Don’t worry about your jacket needing to perfectly match your outfit. Instead, use it as an excuse to really level up your look with a crazy pattern, bold color, or even something with a little texture. It’s the perfect time to make a statement, so go for something unexpected. 🧥

2. Comfort > Cute

Especially when it comes to shoes! While a pair of heels may complete your outfit and add that perfect finishing touch, I promise it’s just not worth having your feet suffer all day. Mardi Gras in Galveston is all about walking, standing, and dancing, and trust me, your feet will thank you for making a comfortable choice. The Strand, for example, has some uneven surfaces and cobblestone streets, which can already make walking a bit tricky, especially when you're juggling drinks and beads. Instead of pushing through with heels, try opting for a stylish pair of tennis shoes or boots in a neutral color that can easily match any outfit. Oh and pick a pair that you don’t mind getting dirty... Comfort doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style, so find a pair that can keep up with the fun and still look cute! 👟

3. Stay Hands Free

When you’re catching beads, grabbing drinks, and shuffling in and out of shops, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and lose track of your purse. With all the movement and distractions, keeping your personal items secure can be a challenge. That’s why a crossbody bag or a cute fanny pack is a game-changer. These hands-free options allow you to stay mobile while keeping your essentials close and safe. That way, you can focus on having fun without worrying about accidentally leaving your belongings behind. 🙌🏽

4. Accessorize

If you don’t have anything that feels festive, don’t sweat it. Use colorful makeup, sunglasses, glitter, hats, or even free beads to get into the spirit. Accessories are not only a simple way to embrace the vibe but also cost-effective! Just spend a few bucks on something you love and re-wear it all year round. Or, if you’re lucky, you might score some free swag (ew, I’m a millennial) to wear around. ✨

Tip (submitted by @giffdog): "Take off your expensive rings. 💍 Hands get cold and diamonds go flying when you’re throwing/catching beads 📿"

5. Think Ahead

Where will you be spending your Mardi Gras this year? The location of your celebration can really influence what you wear, so it’s important to plan accordingly. If you’re attending a balcony party, for example, you might be able to get away with wearing a cute dress or a skirt since you'll have access to indoor spaces where you can warm up if it gets chilly.! However, if your plans involve outdoors, especially after dark, you might want to consider swapping the dress for a pair of leggings or jeans, paired with a cute top. Not only will it keep you warmer, but it’ll also give you the flexibility to move around comfortably. Whether you’re walking around the streets or standing for hours, your outfit should allow you to enjoy the festivities. 💭
